The day

The Bench is a narrow shelf of land between the hills and Okanagan Lake, and it is packed with small producers making wine you will not easily find outside the valley. Most are family operations. On a good day the person pouring is the person whose name is on the label.

Five stops and a proper break in the middle, on a road built so the drive is part of the day rather than the price you pay for it.

Take this one if you already like wine and want to meet the people making it.

Highlights

  • Five producers along the Bench
  • Small family operations, not the big names
  • A real break in the middle of the day
  • One of the best drives in the province

Questions

No, and that is deliberate. There is a proper stop and your guide will tell you what is worth ordering, but you pay for your own. It keeps the ticket honest and lets you eat what you actually want.

About an hour each way from Kelowna, along the lake most of it. That drive is one of the reasons this is a full day rather than a chore.
